Le but, c\u2019est d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 tirer tout en \u00e9tant en mouvement<\/strong>, explique Paul Beignon, un b\u00e9n\u00e9vole. Onze passionn\u00e9s sont venus reconstituer un <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ouest-france.fr\/pays-de-la-loire\/vendee\/l-histoire-de-la-base-americaine-revelee-5102370\">camp d\u2019aviation militaire am\u00e9ricain<\/a> \u00e0 Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez&nbsp;(Vend\u00e9e) les 2 et 3&nbsp;mai 2026. L\u2019association Les soldats de plomb donne un aper\u00e7u du camp d\u2019entra\u00eenement mont\u00e9 par les Am\u00e9ricains entre mai et octobre&nbsp;1918. Pourtant, son existence reste peu connue du grand public. <strong>Je l\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert il y a deux ans<\/strong>, se rappelle Alain, un grand connaisseur de l\u2019histoire militaire am\u00e9ricaine et qui a aid\u00e9 l\u2019association \u00e0 monter cette reconstitution. <strong>Ce patrimoine n\u2019\u00e9tait pas mis en valeur avant. En 1918, Champ-Gaillard \u00e9tait un camp a\u00e9rien<\/a>Le camp d\u2019entra\u00eenement faisait pourtant partie des trois plus gros install\u00e9s en France, assure R\u00e9mi Bureau, tr\u00e9sorier des Soldats de plomb. <strong>Il a pu accueillir jusqu\u2019\u00e0 1800&nbsp;soldats en m\u00eame temps,<\/strong> explique Ren\u00e9 Doudard, b\u00e9n\u00e9vole de l\u2019association Histoire, culture et patrimoine, organisatrice de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement. <strong>En octobre, un des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles a rapport\u00e9 200&nbsp;photos du camp, conserv\u00e9es aux \u00c9tats-Unis. \u00c7a nous a amen\u00e9s \u00e0 retravailler le sujet.<\/strong>&nbsp;<a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ouest-france.fr\/culture\/histoire\/guerre-14-18\/cliches-et-recits-inedits-un-livre-offre-un-regard-neuf-sur-la-presence-americaine-en-vendee-en-1918-dd7ab41e-39a3-11f1-8542-71e3dd27f2c6\">Un livre int\u00e9grant ces photos est \u00e9dit\u00e9 en mai<\/a>. Eleven enthusiasts gathered to recreate an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ouest-france.fr\/pays-de-la-loire\/vendee\/l-histoire-de-la-base-americaine-revelee-5102370\">American military airfield<\/a> in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez (Vend\u00e9e) on 2 and 3 May 2026. The association Les soldats de plomb offers a glimpse of the training camp set up by the Americans between May and October 1918. Yet its existence remains little known to the general public. <strong>I discovered it two years ago<\/strong>, recalls Alain, a great connoisseur of American military history who helped the association organise this re-enactment. <strong>This heritage had not been highlighted before. We knew about the Wars of Religion and the Wars of the Vend\u00e9e, but the fascinating history of the First World War in the Vend\u00e9e had escaped us.
